Politie podcast MH-17
The MH17 disaster occurred in 2014, claiming the lives of all 298 passengers and crew members.
It marked the beginning of the largest criminal investigation ever conducted by the Dutch police. The crime scene spanned hundreds of square kilometers and was located more than two thousand kilometers away in a war zone. Over the course of more than eight years, hundreds of Dutch police officers worked on this investigation — some for many years.
For the MH17 police podcast, my colleague Edward Deiters interviewed eight of our fellow officers. They were involved in bringing the victims’ bodies back to the Netherlands, identifying the deceased, and supporting the families left behind. They also gathered the conclusive evidence that flight MH17 was shot down by a Russian BUK missile.
For this podcast series, I created the visual content, with support from Eliz Cavdar.
